How to Use the Database

Motivation

First of all, the platform has to enable consultation and dissemination of the work done by scholars, their texts as well as the attached annotations.

Full text query in the works and in the annotations in order to search for a precise content, within the full texts or in the content of the BSS.

Exploration of the resource, particularly through the links between statements, created thanks to their similarity scores.

Consultation

The original texts, as well as the annotations, are accessed from the platform.

The query interface is divided into three parts: the first one gives information on the sapiential text (author, history, manuscripts, editions) and on the displayed chapter. The second one presents the text of the current chapter, and the third one shows the list of the open BSS.

It is possible to navigate from an open BSS to its original text and vice-versa.

Full Text Query

The query in full-text concordance makes it possible to trace back precise chains of characters by using regular expressions.

We will differentiate the query about different contexts:

  • Sapiential statements (BSS)
  • Full texts
  • Notes

It is possible to realize queries about any aspect of the statements, or the notes, and to combine these queries.

Similarity

The inter-statements scores are accessed from the detail of each statement in the form of a rank list or a graph. These scores are pre-calculated after the training, in order to be directly accessible in the interface.

The free similarity scores are calculated from a sentence or phrase entered by the user. The search is configured by letting the user choose the language of the query and indicate the semantic aspects of the BSS on which he wishes to realize the score calculation: literal sense, figurative sense and lesson.

Please note:

The Aliento library has included several other sapiential texts and proverb collections to the main corpus. These texts have no annotations for most of them as yet. However, these works are meant to be annotated in the future.
